Leisure
Time
We want your
stay with Live Language Salento to be a great experience and a learning
success. As part of this, we organise afternoon and evening
social activities, aiming to enhance the awareness of culture and
local traditions.
All the activities are directed towards socialising in a learning
environment and increasing the student's interest in the Italian
culture.
First
Day
Welcome
brunch - allows students and teachers to get to know one another and
brings the students into contact with Italian culture straight away.
Weekly
Activities
Trips to historical towns, workshops on various cultural themes,
such as Tarantism and traditional folk music,
outdoor sports including football, volleyball, cycling and canoeing.
We recommend students attend the Carnival
Celebrations (in February) with fancy dress and
processions, which are an important part of the social calendar.
During the months of September and October we also arrange trips
to local olive oil presses and wine cellars, where of course there
will be a tasting session!
Every
night, particularly in the summer, we propose outings to restaurants
and lively pubs and to the many festivals in the Salento area.
Some of the more important festivals include: St. Oronzo in Lecce
(August 26), the processions to the sea in Otranto (August 14),
The Virgin Annunziata in Aradeo (March), St. Antony in Novoli (January).
The latter is famous for its "focara" (bonfire) which
is made up of large bundles of vine branches and reaches a height
of 40 metres. The fire is a spectacular sight and the celebrations
are accompanied by local dishes, concerts and most importantly,
firework displays. Many festivals are characterized by sumptuous
light decorations and beautiful fireworks.
Weekend
We
organize trips to cities rich in culture, such as Lecce,
Gallipoli and Otranto. A
tour guide is available to give you information about the various
destinations and encourage practise of the language. Many
of our students like to organize their own trips over the weekends,
for this we provide information on do-it-yourself excursions to
various places.
If you would like to visit other cities in Salento or have special
interests, we will be pleased to help you. We recommend a
visit to Oria, a medieval
town rich in history and festivals during the summer and Alberobello,
a fairy-tale village of gnome-like structures.
